Benefits of Learning a New Skill

There are many benefits to researching, developing, and perfecting a new skill. The intention behind learning to do something new may have simply been that – developing the ability to do, fix or create something you couldn’t before – but there are plenty of other perks that may come along as a result.

Learning something new, particularly a skill, can boost confidence, reduce fear and anxiety as well as provide feelings of happiness and empowerment.  We also become more adaptable to change and open to taking on new challenges when we attain a new skill. This confidence often leads to increased energy, satisfaction, and motivation to acquire further knowledge and skills.

Our brains benefit greatly from the process of learning, whether it be improved memory or our capacity to improve and educate ourselves.  Brain tissue becomes denser and more malleable (neural pathways are developed, stimulated, and strengthened) when we challenge, struggle and overcome the goal of learning a new skill. In addition, connections between new skills and older skills help us to learn more efficiently moving forward.

We have many opportunities in Sept to learn new skills and expand your knowledge like our Wellness Workshops introduction to Meditation, Meal Planning, Goal Setting, our Smart workshops, Explore Your Core, LIFTsmart, FITTsmart, and a clinic of our 7 Fundamental Movements.
