Community/Self Care Challenge

Our Monthly Theme for July is Community, with a spotlight on Self-Care (International Self-Care Day falls on July 24).

Community can mean many things: residents of an apartment building, street or neighborhood, employees of a company or simply a group of individuals who share a common interest or goal (eg. a fan base for a sports team or artist).  Read More about the importance of Community here

From July 3-July 31st we encourage all members to engage in their community, whether directly with others or by contributing something positive to one of their communities.
Taking an interest in Self-Care also contributes to our communities by improving, motivating or energizing one of its members – you! Many Self-Care activities can also be shared with others or build/strengthen our relationships with others. 

Complete items from the list of sample tasks/activities or create activities of your own that will contribute to your personal wellbeing and your community. For each day that you complete at least one of the listed activities you will earn a ballot into our prize draw – along with the positive benefits that come with participating in the activity itself! 

You can complete multiple tasks in one day or spread activities throughout the week. Have fun, be creative and build yourself and those around you up this month – and beyond! 

 

Sample List of Self Care/Community Activities 

Plan coffee, lunch, a walk with someone you’ve been meaning to catch up with 

Engage with a neighbor you normally don’t: say HI to a neighbor you don’t typically, offer to pick up groceries for someone who can’t, drop off a local restaurant gift card to a deserving neighbor etc. 

Attend a sporting event – any level: kids, high school, college, professional 

Add books to a “free little library” (none nearby? Find out how to start one!) 

Join/contribute to a community garden 

Photograph and share unique/wonderful parts of your community on social media or around your community 

Community clean up: pick up small items yourself or organize/participate in a community clean up 

Plan a donation drive, or simply donate items yourself 

Plan a scavenger hunt for/in your neighborhood 

Plan a game night/fire pit night/outdoor movie night/block party  

Shop local                    

Volunteer              

Call or hand-write a letter to someone you care about 

Get outside (walk/hike, run, bike, gardening) for 30+ minutes 

Go to the library, a museum, the zoo, science centre 

Visit a favorite place you haven’t been to for a while 

Make a new playlist and take time to enjoy it 

Book yourself a massage/spa appointment 

Take a bath (option: with music, candles, oils) 

Buy yourself a guilt-free gift: flowers, a new book etc.  

Sleep in or take a nap 

Practice mindfulness 5+ minutes or try a deep breathing exercise 

Journal, read, write, draw, paint etc. 

Write down: something you’re grateful for, something that you like about yourself, and one goal 

Craft: knit, color, sew, make a home-made card 

Declutter a space that needs it (car, desk, closet)
